Droehm Team:
Learning Is a Journey

Quest 2: Organelles (Posts 1 - 8)
Q2P1: Cell Organelle Videos
1. Review this notes page. If Mrs. Roehm hasn't taught the mini lesson on organelles yet and you are fast paced - really take time to read this notes page first.
2. Watch this video about Cell Organelles. (Click the link.)
3. Go tell Mrs. Roehm the 3 organelles that plant cells have (or look different) that animal cells don't.

Q2P2: Legends of Learning
You must spend AT LEAST 20 MINUTES ON THIS!!!!
1. Click this link to join the Organelle Legends of Learning.
Huge tip - Use this worksheet to help you answer the questions! It is a notes page that lists the jobs of the organelles.
Q2P3: Cell City (or other analogy)
This assignment is in Google Classroom (Q2P3: Cell City). Read the tip below before beginning.

Read the directions in Google Classroom carefully. Before you create your actual project, make a plan. Your plan will be a document in which you write every organelle, what it is going to represent, and why it represents that organelle. Get it approved by Mrs. Roehm) You must include all the organelles included on the last page of this document.

Again, you MUST get your plan approved before starting your actual project!
Once your project is complete and Mrs. Roehm approves it, attach a clear picture of it to the assignment in this assignment in Google Classroom.
Q2P4: Plant vs Animal Double Bubble

-
Watch this video to learn how to create a Double Bubble. (If you remember how to do a Double Bubble, you don’t have to rewatch the video.)
-
You can use this resource if you need a refresher on the organelles.
-
Draw your own double bubble on paper that compares an animal cell to a plant cell.
-
You must have at least 4 similarities and at least 4 point/counterpoints.
-
In your double bubble, make sure to include the organelles a plant has that an animal doesn’t.
-
In your double bubble, make sure to connect to how the shape of a plant cell differs from an animal cell.
-
You DO NOT have to connect to the CCC’s for this Double Bubble - Just the organelles and the shape!
-
Important:
- In your double bubble, make sure to include the organelles a plant has that an animal doesn’t.
- In your double bubble, make sure to connect to how the shape of a plant cell differs from an animal cell.

Show Mrs. Roehm your completed double bubble.
Q2P5: Unconventional Cell Model
Your task is to create a model of a plant cell using unconventional materials from around the classroom (or your house if you are doing this from home) to create a plant cell (including all of its organelles!). Unconventional materials could include types of food or any other objects from around your house like string, pillows, buttons, rocks, etc. Anything is fair game!
Just make sure that when you create your cell model, the structure (shape) and/or function (job) of each organelle is accurately represented (to the best of your ability).
Include the following organelles in your model:
-
Cell wall
-
Cell membrane
-
Nucleus
-
Mitochondria
-
Chloroplasts
-
Golgi Apparatus
-
Ribosomes
-
Endoplasmic reticulum
-
Vacuole
You can use this resource to help you remember all of the organelles.
When your model is completed, call Mrs. Roehm over to look at it.
Q2P6: Evaluate your unconventional model.
This assignment is in Google Classroom (Q2P6 Evaluate Your Unconventional Cell Model T Chart).
Show Mrs. Roehm your completed T Chart from Google Classroom.
Q2P7: Comparing Plant and Animal Cells
This assignment is in Google Classroom (Q2P7 Comparing Plant and Animal Cells).

Show Mrs. Roehm your completed assignment in Google Classroom.
Q2P8: Plant or Animal?
This assignment is in Google Classroom (Q2P8 Plant or Animal?).
