Droehm Team:
Learning Is a Journey

Quest 1: Introduction to Newton's Laws
Q1P1: Self Assess
Open the Q1P1: Newton's Laws Learning Target Page Assignment in Google Classroom. For each target, self assess using Secure (S), Meeting (M), Progressing (P), and Learning (L). Remember, it is totally fine to assess at an L! Learning is a journey. It is about growth! This is just a starting point. We will reassess throughout the unit so we can track our growth in each Learning Target. Do NOT submit the assignment in Google Classroom.

You will be learning about different types of forces: Applied, Normal, Air Resistance and Gravity. Read about each type of force from the image below.
-
Think of an animal that represents you as a person. Think of your strongest character traits and interests to guide your choice.
-
Then, determine an action that the animal could do that shows all of the types of forces (air resistance, normal force, applied force, and gravity). The action you choose the animal to be doing should be something that you also love to do.
-
Open Canva and open the Magic Image editor you used to create your avatar.
-
In the “Describe” box, type in the animal you chose and what you want it to be doing. It also could be helpful to type in the setting you want the animal to be in. For example, Mrs. Roehm typed “dolphin playing basketball at a playground.”
-
Once you have your image, click on it. It should appear in the white canvas area.
-
Click the image again. A box will appear above the picture.
-
Click the 3 dots and choose Set Image As Background.
-
In the upper right hand corner, click Share.
-
Below the purple Click this Link button, find the word Download. Click it.
-
Click the purple Download button.
-
Open the Q1P5: A Momentous Propulsion in Google Classroom. Open your assignment slide.
-
Paste the picture of your animal you created into your assignment.
-
Then, in the slide, type in the examples of how your animal is demonstrating each force.

Q1P5: Animals and Forces

Q1P6: Marshmallow Shooter
Get a marshmallow shooter bucket from Mrs. Roehm. You will notice that the bucket has 1 big marshmallow and 6 small marshmallows. That is the number of Marshmallows that should be in the bucket when you give it back to Mrs. Roehm. Please pick up the marshmallows you launch so that they all get back into the bucket.
Clean up is very important in this lab. In the past, students have left marshmallows all over the ground and counters. That will create a sticky mess and draw ants to the room! You have to pick up all of your marshmallows! Even when you launch them across the room, you have to pick them up! If they roll under a student's table, just ask them politely to move so you can get it.

If you accidentally break one of the Marshmallow Shooters, let Mrs. Roehm know! Do not just leave it broken on the counter. Some of these will accidentally break, you won't be in trouble. Mrs. Roehm needs to know if any break so she can make more.
This video is a quick peak into what you will be doing. It is ok to watch the video to get a visual, but make sure you read all the directions so you make sure you are testing the correct variables and collecting the correct data.
***After you have gathered the required data...it is ok to do a multi-marshmallow launch just for fun! Just pick up all the marshmallows after you launch.
Open the Q1P6 Marshmallow Shooter Assignment in Google Classroom. READ ALL THE DIRECTIONS ON SLIDE 1 in order to collect the required data.
